1 deadly, 1 involving attempted catalytic converter theft


NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) – Police in New Haven were called to two shootings in New Haven late Monday night, one of which turned deadly.

One happened on Hillside Avenue and involved a vehicle owner shooting at a suspect who was accused of trying to steal a catalytic converter, police said.

No one was hit and the suspect got away.

The other happened on South Frontage Road around 9:35 p.m.

In that case, a victim was hit and killed. They identified the person as Waterbury man, 23-year-old Jorge Delgado. He was reportedly inside a vehicle that was struck by gunfire.

Delgado was rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Both scenes were active around midnight on Tuesday; however, they were clear later in the morning.
