New surveillance video shows a tense standoff in Racine.

It happened Wednesday morning at a home near Clairmont Street and Biscayne Avenue.

A federal agent was shot and the suspect was found dead.

Doorbell camera video from a home nearby showed the moments as local and federal officers arrived to serve a search warrant.

“We had police in our backyard with shields and snipers,” neighbor Cyajha Tye said.

“It was like, ‘Holy crap! What the heck’s going on here?'” Bre Tye said.

What happened next wasn’t in view but police said someone from inside the home shot at officers and hit a federal agent.

“They need to know it’s a gunshot wound to the shoulder,” one officer can be heard telling dispatchers.

As officers retreated without returning gunfire, two officers took a position on the porch.

“If he comes out the door, I just don’t wanna hit crossfire coming across,” one officer tells another.

“They got this covered pretty good,” another replies.

According to police, officers negotiated for several hours with the 36-year-old suspect.

They haven’t released his name.

Police said he was wanted on assault and weapons violations.

“Just a heads up, RPD got a dispatch call from 3720 indicating that there are juveniles in there and she’s not opening the door because they’re scared of the police,” an officer said on the police radio.

Just before noon, officers used flash bangs to get into the home.

Once inside, they said they found the fugitive had died by suicide.

Neighbors were still shaken by what happened.

They said this wasn’t the first time police responded to the home.

“They did have a standoff with them a couple months ago,” Cyajha Tye said. “I think it was kind of over the same thing it was for a warrant.”

Two people at the home in question Thursday answered the door but did not answer questions from WISN 12.

Police said the federal agent who was shot was in stable condition.

His name has also not been released.

Investigators said he was helping with a multi-jurisdictional operation.

Police have not answered questions about the incident.

No other details have been released.
